Nashville Edge Minute: Brantley Gilbert finds new use for his mug shot

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Aug 29, 2014

There’s no shortage of celebrity mug shots, but one country star is using his own to poke fun at himself. That tops the country music news now trending on NashvilleEdge.com's weekly video feature, Nashville Edge Minute, created in partnership with NewsChannel 5 Nashville's "Talk of the Town."

Country artists have been known to sell all kinds of crazy merchandise on their web sites, from Snuggies to scented candles, but we’ve never heard this one before. Brantley Gilbert is selling a new t-shirt design that actually features his own mug shot on the front and the message “read me my rights” on the back! Believe it or not, Brantley says he actually had several different mug shots to choose from. He explains by saying, “I’m from Georgia, we go to jail to learn lessons.”

He ultimately chose the mug shot in which he looked the least apologetic. In some of the other photos, he had that “please don’t call my mom” look on his face. The shirts sell for $24.95, which hopefully won’t go toward future bail money for the country star.

See the shirt design here.

Big & Rich are celebrating their 10th anniversary as a duo with a new album, “Gravity,” set to launch on Sept. 23. The album, which includes a duet with Tim McGraw, marks the debut of their own label, Big & Rich Records, following a long stint with Warner Music Nashville.

Sorry ladies, but both halves of the country duo Love and Theft are now off the market. The band’s remaining single member, Stephen Barker Liles, married his longtime girlfriend, Jenna Kennedy, on Sunday night at the Nashville event space Ruby. The wedding included a dedication for the couple’s baby son, Jett Barker Liles.

And finally, check out this hilarious viral video (included above) of the grounds crew for the minor league baseball team the Durham Bulls getting down to the new Taylor Swift song, “Shake it Off.” The crew, which calls itself the Diamond Cutters, gave fans some extra moves between innings recently. Pretty impressive!
