The search for an escaped inmate in Springfield has ended.

Nicholas Gamblin, 33, was arrested in front of a home in the 2700 block of West State Street around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.

"Officers were in the area to check a person on a motorcycle.  After they initiated a traffic stop, they discovered it was Mr. Gamblin," said Lieutenant Scott Kamykowski.  "Our officers did great work this morning and the public provided some very helpful tips."

Gamblin had eluded authorities for nearly a week after he managed to get out of a police car during a transfer from a court appearance in Strafford to the Greene County Jail.  His escape prompted a lockdown of the Drury and Ozark Technical College campuses.

According to online court records, Gamblin is facing numerous charges including two additional attempted escapes from custody, tampering with a motor vehicle, robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, drug possession, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.  The charges stem from at least four separate cases against him in Greene County.

Kamykowski said additional charges related to Gamblin's latest escape are pending.
