Springfield Police Ask For Help Hiring More Officers

By Jason Rima. CREATED Aug 4, 2014
Springfield Police are asking for the public's help convincing Springfield City Council to hire more police officers.

The president of the Springfield Police Officers Association says city council needs to hire enough officers to return the ranks to full strength.

Council is considering suspending discussions on adding any more officers until later this year.

But SPOA President Mike Evans says that leaves people at greater risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Evans says violent crimes continue to rise, and Springfield Police officers are working more calls than officers in other metro areas in the state.

Evans says the money is there to add more officer.

Now, police are asking the public to convince council members not to wait any longer.
