Shooting Victim Recovering At Springfield Hospital

Police in Springfield say a 22 year old man who was shot in the stomach on south Jefferson near Madison is recovering at a hospital.

Police are calling this a targeted shooting and the public should not be concerned a suspect is still on the loose.

The two men who knew each other lived in the same apartment house. Nearby Jarrett Elementary was never on lockdown.

A school spokeswoman says the doors to the building are locked, ringing a buzzer is required to gain entry.

A man in Springfield was shot in the stomach on the 800 block of Jefferson.

A spokeswoman for Springfield Police says he was awake when they took him to the hospital and the shooter got away.

She says police are interviewing witnesses at this time and there are three other apartments in the home where the shooting happened.
