Edited release from OTC:

SPRINGFIELD, MO. — Ozarks Technical Community College will mark Veterans Day with a special service at 11 a.m. in the Jared Family Atrium at the OTC Springfield Campus.

The service will pay tribute to Special Agent Sgt. Joseph M. Peters and his family. Sgt. Peters, an OTC graduate, was killed Oct. 6 when his unit was attacked in Afghanistan.

The family will be in attendance, including Sgt. Peters’ father, Dennis, who is OTC’s Veterans Student Services representative. There will be a moment of silence for the fallen soldier.

The OTC Board of Trustees recently recognized Sgt. Peters’ service and sacrifice with a resolution. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.

In addition to the special recognition of the Sgt. Peters, Rob Dixon, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and executive vice president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, will be speaking.

Lt. Colonel Loren M. Lundstrom, U.S. Air Force Retired and assistant dean for enrollment services and director of international programs at OTC, will also make remarks.

The OTC Concert Choir will perform the National Anthem.

A scholarship has been established with the OTC Foundation in Sgt. Peters’ name. To contribute to the scholarship, call the OTC Foundation at 417-447-2651.
