By Lynne Roberts. CREATED Jul 18, 2014

Attorney General Chris Koster is one of several people scheduled to speak Wednesday at the grand opening of Beacon Village in northwest Springfield.

Edited from a press release from the Kitchen:

The community will celebrate the grand opening of Beacon Village (3902 W. Helen St. - Springfield), a housing development which helps meet one the our community’s most critical needs—affordable permanent housing. Local and state dignitaries will speak at the event on Wednesday, July 23 at 11:30 a.m., including Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, commissioner for Missouri Housing Development Commission.

The opening of Beacon Village is a milestone in this community’s progress toward ending homelessness. It provides 44 units of affordable permanent housing for income-qualified individuals and families, including 20 units for formerly homeless families. Support services, including case management and health screenings, from The Kitchen, Inc. and Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri are also provided at a new community center located within the housing development.

All media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting event. Media support is vital to the continued success of The Kitchen, Inc. and the services it provides to homeless and at-risk individuals, families, children and youth.

Further, the Commission administers homeless assistance funds for permanent housing in an effort to end homelessness in Missouri. The Commission also provides advisory, consultative, training and educational services to non-profit housing organizations. The Commission includes the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Attorney General and six persons appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.
