Help Needed In Salvation Army's Backpack Program
With school starting next month some families got some extra help this past week by registering their child in the back-to-school backpack program.
Members with the Salvation Army in Springfield say donated items and volunteers are always needed. A spokeswoman says the distriubution day is scheduled for Monday August fifth at their thrift store on south Campbell.
For more information about donating back-to-school items or to sign-up to volunteer please call (417) 862-5509 ext.116 or visit www.usc.salvationarmy.org/springfield-mo.
Information from news release . . .
Last year, The Salvation Army provided back-to school assistance for more than 1,000 local children and anticipates helping many more this year.
But helping so many requires the help of many others. Numerous volunteers are needed from Saturday August 3rd through Monday August 5th to help pack backpacks, sort school supplies and act as personal ‘shopping buddies’ for the children & families receiving assistance.
In addition to volunteers, school supplies and new or gently-used children’s clothing – especially boy’s clothing – are also needed.
