Ozarks Voters Reject Use Tax On Internet Sales

By Mike Morgan. CREATED Nov 5, 2013

With 100 percent of the vote counted, the Greene County Use Tax proposal has been defeated.

Unofficial returns compiled by the Greene County Clerk's office shows 44 percent of voters said yes, while 56 percent said no.

Only around eight percent of Greene County's eligible 69 thousand voters cast a ballot.

Greene County leaders estimated the tax on internet sales would have generated around three million dollars annually.

In Webster County, no votes on a use tax outnumbered yes votes 71.1 percent to 28.1 percent

In Christian County, the decision was even more lopsided. No voters totaled 80 percent to yes voters at 20 percent
