Former Vietnam War POW Welcoming Ozarks Students

CREATED Aug. 22, 2013

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. (AP) - New students at the College of the Ozarks will hear from a former Air Force colonel who survived five years in captivity as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

The remote southwest Missouri school regularly hosts speakers with national political profiles, including former First Lady Laura Bush. Friday's speaker is former POW Lee Ellis, who was imprisoned in Hanoi after his fighter plane was shot down in 1967.

The college's focus on history and politics has also featured a program that sent students and World War II veterans on joint trips to battlefields, World War II concentration camps and other historic sites.
