Crash Near Mount Vernon Kills 5, Including 3 Children
Update (8:30 p.m.) - The Highway Patrol has released the names of the six people involved in a fatal crash early Sunday morning near Mount Vernon. According to the accident report, John Stephens, 30, of Van Buren, crossed the center line of Route H and hit Mason Colley, 75, of Larussell, head on. Colley was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Stephens and his passengers, Lori Stephens, 27, Harly Pappan, 7, David Pappin, 5, and Tyler Pappen, 4, died at the scene.
A crash in Lawrence County on Route H near Mount Vernon has killed five people, including three children.
The Highway Patrol says it happened around 3:45 this morning. Sergeant Jason Pace says the car pulled into the path of a truck when it happened. The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The identities of those killed have not been released until family has been notified.
