Springfield Police Find Missing Bolivar Boy, Suspect Arrested
Update (5:38 p.m.) - A utility worker in Springfield is credited with spotting the suspect's vehicle and calling police. The employee, who did not want to be identified, issued this statement through his employer, City Utilities of Springfield: "I was just doing my job. Everyone should take time to watch and take care of our kids."
Update (5:36 p.m.) - Amber Alert is cancelled. According to Bolivar Police Chief Mark Webb, Jamil Hanson is facing charges of parental kidnapping and burglary.
Update (4:59 p.m.) - The suspect, Jamil Hanson, has been taken into custody.
Update (4:42 p.m.) - Springfield Police tweeted at 4:35 p.m. that "all children are safe and [they] are working to make contact with the suspect."
Update (4:12 p.m.) - The three-year-old boy was safely removed from a home at Grand and Nettleton. Police said the suspect, Jamil Hanson, 29, is still inside.
Update (3:58 p.m.) - The suspect at the center of an Amber Alert is believed to have been located. According to police, Jamil Hanson, 29, was found at a home near Grand and Nettleton in Springfield about 15 minutes ago.
Authorities said Hanson forcibly took his son, three-year-old Jaden, from a home in the 600 block of North Sunset in Bolivar around 1:00 p.m. Friday. The boy's whereabouts are not exactly known at this time. KTTS' Mike Morgan is en route and will provide an update as soon as more information is made available.
Update (3:46 p.m.) - Police believe the suspect is holed up in a home at Grand and Nettleton. Officers are requesting additional units.
Update (3:28 p.m.) - Authorities said the vehicle was spotted leaving a gas station near Kansas Expressway in Springfield. The vehicle was last seen heading east at Mt. Vernon and Kansas. According to police, a female was driving the vehicle, which they now say is a 2001 model passenger vehicle.
Original story: An Amber Alert has been issued for a three-year-old boy believed to have been forcibly taken by his father on Friday afternoon. Bolivar Police Chief Mark Webb said the child was last seen at a home in the 600 block of North Sunset in Bolivar around 1:00 p.m.
Police are searching for Jaden Hanson and his father, Jamil Hanson, 29. Both are described as black males. Jaden Hanson was last seen wearing a one piece sleeper. Jamil Hanson is about 5'9" and 212 pounds. He is believed to be wearing a black shirt and black jacket.
The two were last seen heading south from Bolivar in a white 4-door passenger vehicle with Missouri plates: CJ7D0K. According to earlier reports, the vehicle is possibly a 2001 Hyundai, but police have yet to officially release the make and model.
Authorities said Jamil Hanson has ties to the Springfield and Kansas City areas. If you see these two people or the vehicle, you're being asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
