Springfield Councilman To Host Public Meeting On Pseudoephedrine Bill

By Nancy Simpson. CREATED May 30, 2013

From a press release from the City of Springfield...

City Councilman Craig Fishel will host a Public Meeting, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Dan Kinney Family Center, 2701 S. Blackman Road.

Councilman Fishel has received a large number of questions and comments from constituents in his zone regarding a bill being referred by Council’s Community Involvement Committee requiring a prescription for medicine containing pseudoephedrine.

The committee unanimously recommended that the City adopt the prescription requirement in an effort to curb meth labs, and related activities, in the city. The ordinance will come before City Council for its first reading Monday, June 3.

The proposal<http://www.springfieldmo.gov/citycouncil/agenda/2013/060313/2013-127.pdf> would restrict all forms of pseudoephedrine except for a very narrow exemption in the case of medicine that resists manufacturing.

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams and Sgt. Bryan DiSylvester, supervisor of the department’s narcotics unit, will provide information and field questions at the meeting.
