John Q Hammons has been a pioneer in bringing both college and professional sports to the next level in the Ozarks.
Many credit him as one of the sole reason that the St. Louis Cardinals now have a farm team again in Springfield.
KTTS News spoke with Springfield Cardinals GM Matt Gifford about Hammons impact.
"He means everything to it, this is a guy who builds a $32.5 million ballpark without an official team, and took that risk. It's just amazing what he meant to the fans of Springfield, the Ozarks, and the Cardinals," Gifford told KTTS News
Helping People Across All Backgrounds
Gifford says that Hammons had a way of helping everyone in came in touch with.
"He was a true visionary that was amazing philanthropic, and that's something I think we will all remember him for; his vision and how he helped so many people in so many different ways."
Love of Baseball and Sports
"It was always special he loved baseball. Even when he couldn't come we would have conversations about how St. Louis was doing, Gifford says, "He loved spring training, he loved baseball and loved to talk sports. His conversation will always be special to me".
Legacy Will Live On In Community
"It will be monumental, for years to years to come people will be able to come out with their families and enjoy Hammons Field. They will be able to enjoy the National past time which he loves so much," Gifford told KTTS News.
