Branson, Columbia Air Traffic Towers Temporarily Funded
(MissouriNET) - Two air traffic control towers in Missouri that were slated to close are now off the chopping block...at least until the fiscal year ends in September.
Western Missouri Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler says it's a "victory for the traveling public" that the Branson and Columbia towers have been given a temporary reprieve from federal sequester cuts.
"These are basically grants that had not been allocated yet for improvements at airports. We thought this could be a pot of money that we could use to make sure that these towers could stay open and keep the traveling public safe," says Hartzler.
Hartzler says lawmakers are now trying to find a way to keep them permanently funded.
