Illinois Murder Suspect Shot, Killed In Arkansas
Thomas O'Dell is wanted for murder in Illinois. Police say he stole vehicles in Mansfield and Springfield.
BRYANT, Ark. (AP) - A man wanted for murder in Illinois and vehicle thefts in Missouri is dead after a shootout in Arkansas.
Arkansas State Police say police in Bryant, southwest of Little Rock, were responding to a burglary call at a store late Tuesday when they encountered a man in a fenced-in area.
State police say the man and a Bryant officer exchange gunfire.
Bryant police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Thomas O'Dell, who was pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital.
Police say O'Dell was a suspect in the March 18 shooting death of Benjamin Newton at a pub in Mattoon, Ilinois.
He was also wanted for stealing vehicles in Mansfield and Springfield.
The officer was treated and released from a hospital for his injuries.
Authorities say he was also suspected in two vehicle thefts in Missouri.
