Barry County Voters Narrowly Approve Law Enforcement Sales Tax
Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly
Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly is breathing a sigh of relief after a narrow victory for a law enforcement sales tax. It'll generate an estimated $450,000.
Epperly says the issue failed last time, and there was a lot riding on this one.
"If it didn't pass, I was promised that pretty much you were gonna have a cut back in more staff. It's just not there. A lot of times, we only have two patrol cars on at night. I'm glad to see this pass, it's gonna benefit the county."
Epperly says the plan is to replace some of the Sheriff's Department's aging cars, and bring back a few of the deputies that have been laid off.
