Nixa's police dog was missing this morning, but was found less than two hours later.
The city says Jannie lives with an officer, but that officer is away on training today.
The officer's wife went to let Yannie out this morning from her kennel in the backyard.
It's believed someone let her out of her kennel and locked it back.
A jogger found the dog, took her home and posted the picture on Facebook.
She was quickly recognized by a veterenarian in Nixa.
From an earlier press release,,,
Nixa Police, with help from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, are currently searching for Jannie (pronounced Yaw-knee), the department's 3-year-old Belgian malinois drug dog.
She was discovered missing this morning around 8 a.m. from her home in the Whispering Hills subdivision in just outside southwest Springfield's city limits. Jannie's handler, Officer Shawn Clark, is away on training and when his wife went to let Jannie out this morning she was missing from her kennel and the slide barrel latch was latched. Nixa Police and Greene County are confident that Jannie was stolen from her home sometime between 5 p.m. yesterday and 8 a.m. this morning. Jannie is considered a member of the Nixa Police Department and anyone responsible can be charged for these actions.
Jannie is mircrochipped. Nixa officers are conducting a neighborhood search and we urge anyone with information to please call the Nixa Police at 725-2010 immediately.
Nixa acquired Jannie in Fall 2011. After extensive training in Alabama and Georgia, she began her tenure with the Nixa Police Department in November 2011.
