Republic Schools Name New Elementary Principal
From a press release...
Republic, Missouri—Two new names were introduced as part of the Republic School District team during the Board of Education meeting this past Monday evening. Dr. Elizabeth Engelhart was named as principal of the district’s newly formed elementary school. The school itself was also named during the meeting.
Sweeny Elementary was selected to continue the theme of naming district buildings in honor of influential American Civil War soldiers who fought in the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Superintendent, Ted Hillmer suggested the name which will honor Thomas William Sweeny, general in the Union Army who was wounded during the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. Sweeny Elementary will open for the 2013-2014 school year.
Sweeny Elementary’s new principal, Dr. Engelhart has served the Springfield Public School District for the past six years in a variety of roles ranging from instructor to her current position as principal of Delaware Elementary. At Delaware she was known for her philosophy of shared leadership and team focus on strategic planning. These skills and attributes were credited for building a culture of collaboration and improvement among the diverse Delaware community.
Dr. Engelhart is a lifelong resident of Republic who graduated from Republic High School, and currently resides in the community with her husband and children. Prior to her service in Springfield, Dr. Engelhart was an instructor in the Republic School District for a period of seven years. She left the district with the intent of adding additional experiences to her educational “tool bag,” but is eager to return home and assist in establishing a new and wonderful opportunity for the children in Republic.
Superintendent of Schools, Chance Wistrom stated “Dr. Engelhart’s dedication to shared leadership and strategic improvement will serve our district well as she fosters a culture of collaboration and excellence in our newly formed Sweeny Elementary.”
