Nashville Edge Minute: These country stars are all wet

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Aug 15, 2014

Have you heard of the newest viral sensation, the ice bucket challenge? That tops the country music news now trending on NashvilleEdge.com's weekly video feature, Nashville Edge Minute, created in partnership with NewsChannel 5 Nashville's "Talk of the Town."

In an effort to raise money and awareness for those suffering from ALS, people across the country are pouring buckets of ice water over their heads, posting the videos online, and then challenging their friends to do the same within 24 hours. They’re also asked to make a small donation to the ALS Association at the same time.

It didn’t take long for the challenge to reach country music stars, who have been accepting it in droves, making for some hilarious viral videos going around.

Among the country stars who have already done it are Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley, Chris Young, Lee Brice, Randy Houser and Justin Moore. Keith Urban took on the challenge with the assistance of baseball hall of famer George Brett, as you’ll see in the video above.

This challenge has raised more than seven million dollars just in the past few weeks for the ALS Association, and that total is still growing.

In other news, Kenny Chesney says the eleven tracks on his upcoming album, “The Big Revival,” will not follow the latest country music trends. Refreshingly, that means there will be no songs about trucks, creek beds or cut-off jeans, Chesney promises.

“The Big Revival” is due out September 23. It includes a new duet with Chesney’s previous “You and Tequila” duet partner, Grace Potter, as well as a track featuring Union Station’s Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski. Kenny says he plans to tour in support of the album next year.

Check out the video above for both of these stories, and be sure to look for the latest country music headlines online every day on NashvilleEdge.com.
