Update, July 17: Demand for the wristbands enabling access to Kenny Chesney’s free show in Pensacola, Florida, on Aug. 16 was so great that it literally crashed his web site Thursday morning. In the end, all of the wristbands were snapped up in under five minutes.
Says Kenny in response, “Maybe the fans are as hungry to see me as I am them, ‘cause I can’t wait to get out there and play. As I’ve said: I really miss not playing shows, seeing the people and having that exchange of energy that we have every night! The No Shoes Nation always brings it, and brings it hard – and they push me to be a better artist.”
Original story: Kenny Chesney misses his No Shoes Nation. So, he's going to play a massive beach party concert, dubbed Flora-Bama-Jama, on Aug. 16 at The Flora-Bama Lounge, and he wants you and your friends to come. "No shoes, no shirt, no problems..." isn't that right?
The Flora-Bama Lounge is located on Perdido Key in Pensacola, Florida, on the state line where that city meets Orange Beach, Alabama.
The four-time Country Music Association and four consecutive Academy of Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year winner has taken the past year off to record, as his last full concert was in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, in August 2013. However, that's about to change with his one-night-only gig next month.
"I've been holed up making a record for the last year ... and anyone who knows me knows how much I miss playing, miss the fans, but especially miss the culture of the people who love this music bring with them," Kenny says in statement. "Obviously, this isn't going to be one of those huge shows we do, but it's gonna be a long day, a whole lotta music and even more fun."
Kenny believes the venue's location represents everything his next album, "The Big Revival," is about. "It’s everything the notion of 'The Big Revival' is built on: taking that time to regroup, replenish then re-engage with the passion of being truly, absolutely alive,” he explains in statement.
Already a fan-favorite on radio, Kenny's debut single off The Big Revival, "American Kids," fueled his need to play at least one full show this year, despite his studio-heavy schedule.
“This all started with ‘American Kids’ for me,” Kenny further shares in statement. “The idea how passionate my fans are, the way they come together and how much they love life, they love music and they celebrate every moment. I miss getting out there and playing, and I figured this is a way to combine everything they love in one place ... Capture the essence of that freewheeling, seize the moment notion of the song, the album and the Nation.”
This bar with a built-in beach was established in 1964 and has a lengthy list of elite supporters. Ticket information can be found on KennyChesney.com beginning at 7 a.m. CST on Thursday, July 17. Wristbands will be available to gain access to the enclosed beach area.
