Brett Eldredge celebrates No. 1 by swimming with sharks

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Jul 17, 2014

When Brett Eldredge landed his first No. 1 single, “Don’t Ya,” last year, he celebrated by jumping out of an airplane with a group of pals. When he recently notched his second No. 1 for “Beat of the Music,” Brett had to best his skydiving adventure. He did so by making good on a promise to swim with sharks.

Brett made the dive Wednesday off the coast of the Bahamas. The stunt was part of a bet Brett made before the chart summit. He had agreed to go shark diving should he be lucky enough to have his second consecutive single off his debut album reach No. 1.

After making it back to shore, Brett said, “People celebrate No. 1s and gold singles in different ways. I just happen to be lucky enough to have some of my best friends in the world come out and celebrate with me in a BIG way. I want to thank everyone at country radio, my management and promotion teams and my family, friends and fans who have supported me all of these years. Life is good. Rock the ocean. Love life. It’s all you've gotta do!”

The single not only went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart last month, it also has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales of half a million downloads. While underwater, he held up plaques commemorating both the No. 1 and the gold certification victories.

Brett and his team made the dive in association with the Rock the Ocean Foundation, which organized the shark diving adventure with Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas. Rock the Ocean’s mission is to increase public awareness about impacting the world’s oceans and to support scientific research, education and the ocean conservation initiatives.

Brett will spend the rest of the summer opening dates on Keith Urban’s “Raise ‘Em Up” tour, which runs through Sept. 7.
