Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The start of the new school year will be here before you know it, and valley teachers were picking up supplies on Wednesday and getting ready for class.
North Las Vegas teacher Grace Lazarin was among the hundreds shopping at the Teacher EXCHANGE.
The resource center collects gently-used and surplus school supplies and materials, which are then sold to local teachers for a bargain.
Lazarin said many of her students can't afford to get these necessities on their own, "If I can help my kids by providing them notebooks or pencils or paper, the Teacher EXCHANGE has them at prices that you can't even get on sale any place else."
Wednesday's event by the Public Education Foundation was held at their new Teacher EXCHANGE location on South Maryland Parkway near Flamingo.
The center will be open to teachers like DeAnn Sheehan throughout the school year, "It has a wide variety of materials that I couldn't afford otherwise. I was spending like $4,000 a year out of pocket, and it's dropped substantially using this."
Harmon Elementary School teacher Erika Palmer-Rogers said the chance to get supplies at such a great price is invaluable, "There are enhancement supplies like paints and things like that. Glitter paints that the district doesn't normally stock in their warehouse. And the reason that I want that, is to enhance the experiences of the students."
You can make a tax deductible donation to the Teacher EXCHANGE, and help other teachers get the very-much-needed materials they need for their classrooms.
