Four 'Star Trek' captains attending this year's convention in Las Vegas

Four "Star Trek" captains will be participating in this year's annual Star Trek convention at the Rio hotel-casino July 31 through Aug. 3.
The captains include William Shatner, Captain Kirk on the original "Star Trek" series; Scott Bakula, Captain Jonathan Archer on "Star Trek: Enterprise;" Avery Brooks, Captain Benjamin Sisko on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine;" and Kate Mulgrew, who was Captain Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager."
More than 15,000 fans are expected to attend the 13th annual Official Star Trek Convention, which is the world's largest gathering of Star Trek fans.
The event will feature more than 104 celebrities from all four incarnations of "Star Trek." Other big names include Nichelle Nichols (Uhura); Colm Meaney (Miles O'Brien); Brent Spiner (Data); LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge); Simon Pegg (Montgomery Scott); Michael Dorn (Worf); Ethan Phillips (Neelix); Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax); Peter Weller (Admiral Marcus); Denise Crosby (Lt. Tasha Yar); and Walter Koenig (Chekov).
The event features an exhibit hall filled with "Star Trek" and other sci-fi collectibles; celebrity guest appearances and autograph signings; auctions; trivia contests; costume contests and a parade; nightly karaoke events; craftspeople offering free Enterprise hats, caricatures in uniform and alien tattoos; and refreshments from Quark's Bar.
Highlights of the four-day event include Cosplay Focus Day with 2,000 attendees on Saturday; an appearance by author Harlan Ellison on Thursday; two special panels with NASA on Friday and Saturday; Nevada Pops Orchestra's musical salute to the music of "Star Trek;" a real "Imzadi" wedding ceremony on Friday; and a parody of "Star Trek" by the Rat Pack on Sunday night.
General admission tickets are available at the door for $35 per day on Thursday and Friday and $40 on Saturday and Sunday. Cadet training tickets (does not allow entrance to main theater) are available for $20 each day all four days. If you want a ticket for all four days, it's $149.
Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
