Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Tourists flock to the Bonanza Gift Shop to stock up on Las Vegas trinkets. It's been a destination for years as one of the few businesses open at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Sahara Avenue.
"I've seen an awful lot happen on this corner," supervisor Charlotte Summerfield said with a laugh.
She's worked at Bonanza for almost 20 years and she's ready for some company at that end of the boulevard where the SLS Las Vegas will soon open.
Construction on a new retail center is also underway on the northeast corner that will house a Walgreens pharmacy, according to the city.
"We are really looking forward to all the things that are going to happen on the other three corners," Summerfield said. "All the foot traffic we can get, it's a help."
But that's not all. Right next to the SLS there are plans to build the All Net Arena and the lot on the southwest corner will hold the Rock in Rio music festival in 2015.
Tourists who walk that end of the boulevard are also looking forward to the revitalization. Many said they feel as if the corner has been forgotten.
"It's just kind of smelly and dirty and I know that's a part of Las Vegas, but there are other parts that are nicer," Kathy Claxton said, who's visiting from Indiana.
Locals are excited for the opening of the new SLS with new dining and entertainment options.
"It's three clubs in one. You can't beat it," promoter Desmond Omabegho said. "It's going to be great. It's going to be awesome."
"I think with the SLS that I see now as I look across the street, with all the lights and all the marquee, it's really going to make this corner beautiful," Summerfield added.
