Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The big Downtown Summerlin job fair was a popular place to be. People turned out in droves, all hoping to snag one of the 2,000 jobs up for grabs.
"We knew it was a lot of interest in the Downtown Summerlin opening and also getting positions at downtown Summerlin, but to see the lines100 deep over an hour before we open the door was pretty impressive," said Downtown Summerlin Senior General Manager Andrew Ciarrocchi.
The job fair really surpassed everyone's expectations. The event was held in the Summerlin Ballroom at Red Rock Casino. The line of job seekers stretched all the way down to the first floor lobby.
"Thank goodness we got here early," said De'Zhane Baker, who's looking for a job. "But for people who came later, it looks dreadful, it wrapped around and around and around. I felt so sorry for them."
The long wait paid off quickly for some. Makayla Bastarache was offered a job on the spot, "This is my first job I just got today so I am really excited."
It's not just entry level jobs available. Downtown Summerlin is a 106-acre development that will have more then 125 stores and eateries. There are part-time positions, full-time positions, even managerial jobs. Retailers said the turnout bodes well for the future of the retail complex.
"As many job fairs as I have attended in my 13 years of retail history, this is just simply amazing," said Adriana Quince, Store Manager of Macy's. "It really speaks to the buzz of what this mall brings to the community."
Approximately 3,690 applicants were at the fair on Wednesday.
