Shadow Hills sends hundreds of kids home with food for the weekend

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Thousands of children in Clark County qualify for free food at school but what happens to those children when the weekend comes?  Caring for Kids, an outreach of Shadow Hills Church, makes Las Vegas a better place to live.

Volunteers for the outreach program meet each week in a large storage space in west Las Vegas filling bags of food that will eventually go to hungry children in Clark county.

Lead Pastor Mark Neal says, "It's part of the bigger picture even more than Shadow Hills Church. These people are from our community and care about our community."

The volunteers are careful to pack food children can eat without a kitchen. Things like granola bars or fruit cups. On Fridays, more than 50 volunteers load up trucks with the food and distribute it to 4 schools with a high population of hungry children.

This one church provides food for more than 400 kids every weekend. Volunteer Fred Gryczkowski says, "There is nothing better than pleasing a kid with a meal in my book and showing God's love that we care about them."

Shadow Hills invests more than $30,000 a year in this outreach.
