Touch-A-Truck benefits Family to Family Connection

By Beth Fisher. CREATED Feb 27, 2014

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- This Saturday, take the kids to the Orleans to Touch-A-Truck.  It's a really cool event featuring more than 100 massive trucks your kids can climb on, honk, spray and pretend drive. It's great fun for the kids and helps raise money for Family to Family Connection.

They sing, they play, and they interact with other children.  It's an important part of learning many preschoolers never experience. Shannon Bilbray-Axelrod is on the board of Family to Family Connection.  She says, "It's not regulated. It's not even regulated that children go to kindergarten here in Nevada. But it's so important."

Important because these kids are less likely to suffer abuse, more likely to read by the third grade, and more likely to succeed in school. But it's also important for parents like Jessica Magnes.  "They teach Delilah things that are more fun with other kids. And also important for me because I get to spend time with other mothers."

In addition to songs and interacting with other kids, a lesson today that makes all of us at Channel 13 proud.  They're learning about crosswalk safety.

"You listen. You look both ways. There goes the car. Bye car!"

Family to Family offers classes like these and also parenting classes.  And unlike many programs out there, these classes are very affordable.  Making early childhood education accessible to everyone.  Mom Amy Cox is grateful.  "I am a stay at home mom, so we have one income.  So we try to save money where we can.  But to be able to be around other kids her age, it's definitely, if we had to pay a lot for it we wouldn't be able to do it."

Family to Family Connection can only do this as long as our community offers support.  You can help by donating or simply by bringing your family to climb, play, and touch a truck
