Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- All over our city there are kids in the hospital with brand new coloring books and crayons to help pass the time. Amy Villareale founded the nonprofit Coloring for Chemo.
Amy started the nonprofit when her best friend and business partner was diagnosed with breast cancer. She said her chemo treatments would last hours.
"At a point, patients start to get chemo brain. It's hard to think. Hard to concentrate. One day I thought it would be fun to bring in a coloring book and crayons. You don't have to think. It takes your mind off things. It's relaxing."
On Nina's last chemo appointment, Amy celebrated by leaving behind a huge basket of coloring books and crayons. When it was empty, nurses called her to fill it up again. Coloring for Chemo was born. Even though it started with adults, Amy now delivers coloring books and crayons to nearly every pediatric unit in the valley and in Salt Lake City too.
Amy relies on friends and family to help donate. But if you are a teacher or a church looking for a service project, consider doing a coloring book drive for Amy. You can reach her through her Facebook page.
