Children's Free Clinic of Southern Nevada keeping our kids healthy

Las Vegas NV (KTNV) -- There are a lot of kids in Southern Nevada who need healthcare, but their parents can't afford it. That's why Dr. Noah Kohn founded the Children's Free Clinic of Southern Nevada.

This place used to partner with the Clark County School District and it was called Clinics in Schools.

When the district wanted Dr. Kohn to turn away patients who weren't CCSD students, it meant he couldn't see many patients.

He left and opened the Children's Free Clinic which isn't free to run. Dr. Kohn relies on generous donors to keep the doors open. We asked why the clinic doesn't qualify for federal funding.

He said, "The government funds cinics that charge with a sliding fee scale. That is based on the model of presumed shared responsibility. But most of the families we serve can't afford a sliding fee scale."

The cost to keep the doors open? About $250,000 a year. It's worth every penny to the more than 20,000 children who've been helped here.

The clinic just needs a $20 monthly commitment from 1,000 of us to keep the doors open.

You can visit their website for donation information.
