Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Hundreds of young football fans got a real gridiron experience on Tuesday, thanks to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl staff.
The 2014 Youth Football Clinic was held at Rebel Park.
More than 500 kids were there, along with UNLV Head Coach Bobby Hauck, the Rebel coaching staff and dozens of UNLV players.
Participants got pointers from the experts, but it wasn't just about the game. They learned about the importance of being a good player off the field.
"That is just as important as being able to run pass patterns and learning the actual plays. We're trying to make better kids and better football players," said John Saccenti, Las Vegas Bowl executive director.
This year's event almost didn't happen. The NCAA pulled out as sponsor of the event, but new sponsors Terrible Herbst and Raising Canes stepped up to fill the void.
