Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Howard Hughes executives have announced a name change and opening date for The Shops at Summerlin.
The Shops at Summerlin will now be named Downtown Summerlin and will open Oct. 9.
The announcement was made Thursday morning during a media tour of the property where the shops are located.
"I think there are a lot of great things happening in Las Vegas now, so we're just a piece of that, but we're pleased to be adding to the great comeback that's underway in Las Vegas," said David Weinreb, Howard Hughes CEO.
Once the 106-acre development is complete, it will feature retail, restaurants, entertainment, homes and office space, including a Class A office building named One Summerlin.
Retail tenants include Michael Kors, Nordstrom Rack, True Religion, Victoria's Secret and Sephora.
"We spent a lot of energy creating a city grid-like system with the driving and also the ability to pull right up to the stores that our consumers will be coming to," said Weinreb.
The goal is for the project to eventually become a live-work space. In another phase, developers imagine a nearby lot as apartment-style homes.
"People are going to live in these beautiful mid-rise or high-rise towers, come out their front door, have a coffee at the coffee shop or outdoor dining at the cafe, and then walk down the street into the center," said Tom Warden, Summerlin Senior VP.
The massive project is providing more than 1,000 construction workers and will employ 2,000 people when it opens.
The Shops at Summerlin is located near the 215 beltway and Sahara Avenue.
