Military members being recognized this month in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- May is known as Military Appreciation Month and Las Vegas is showing its support.

The ladies of "Fantasy" at the Luxor hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip honored the nation's military with a special show to kick off the month on Thursday night.

More than 100 service members were treated to a free show. After the show, military members were treated to a special meet and greet with the cast, which included photos and autographs.

Military Appreciation Day is taking place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17 at the Craig Ranch Regional Park on West Craig Road in North Las Vegas.

The event will feature a free barbecue lunch for all military, including active and retired, and their families. Military ID or veteran's card needed.

Food and beverages will also be available for purchase by other attendees. The event will also feature live entertainment.

The Animal Foundation will celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 17, by offering discounted adoption fees to our local active and retired servicemen and women. The Paws for Patriots special runs May 12-18. Active and retired military can take $50 off adoption fees for dogs and cats a year or older. Eligible adopters must present valid military ID and photo ID.

Cabo Wabo Cantina inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood will offer a 20 percent discount for active duty military members and veterans in honor of Military Appreciation Month.

Military men and women will receive a 20 percent discount on all rockin’ food and drinks when they present their current military ID at the Strip’s hottest cantina.

The Aliante hotel-casino is honoring veterans, active military and their families with a variety of dining and hotel specials throughout the month.

Bistro 57 is offering a special three-course meal for $18. Ten percent of each meal sold will benefit Operation Warmheart. Bistro 57 was named in honor of the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base.

Aliante is also offering a 10 percent discount on admission to The Deck and on all food purchases at Bistro 57, MRKT Sea & land, The Salted Lime, Medley Buffet and Farm 24-7.

RHUMBAR at The Mirage is saluting troops during May with buy-one get-one cocktails throughout the month.

RHUMBAR will welcome service members over 21 years of age with valid military identification to relax on their patio with classic Caribbean libations. Priced from $12 - $14, signature cocktails include the Old Cuban, a refreshing mix of Champagne, rum, fresh lime and mint; the Zombie, a smooth and subtle combination of rum and apricot, pineapple, passion fruit and lime juices; and the crowd-pleasing Piña Colada and many more.

Military members can get free tickets to watch the University of Nevada, Las Vegas softball team play on May 3. Military members will receive two free tickets with a military ID.

The Las Vegas 51's Military Appreciation Night will take place May 23. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. There will be a post-game fireworks celebration in honor of the military. A matching ticket and hat voucher will be donated to a serviceman or woman for every ticket purchased.
