Las Vegas man receives grant for running prosthetics

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Action News got to be part of a big surprise for a local man who lost all of his limbs.

On Wednesday, Eddie Garcia received a special grant from the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

It will allow him to get running prosthetics worth $40,000.

Action News has been following Eddie's journey after he suffered a flesh-eating bacteria more than a year ago. He only had a 20-percent chance of survival.

Doctors saved him but had to cut off his hands and feet.

Within a month of his amputations he was up and walking on prosthetic legs. In less than four months, he was out of the hospital and returned to coaching youth sports in Henderson.

The co-founder of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, along with a paralympian swimmer, stopped by Action News Midday on Wednesday to talk about the surprise.
