Delta Academy now offering students different learning options

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It was the first day of school at Delta Academy on Tuesday.

The public charter school just moved to a state of the art building, so the start of school had to be pushed back a week.

But now the building is ready and several hundred middle and high school students will get some individualized attention. Graduate Sam Briggs said, "They have an actual cafeteria this year. That's awesome."

Sam recalls the days when the Delta Academy was in a tiny office building. A lot has changed since then, but not the personal attention.

"When I was younger, I was kind of struggling in the public school system because classes were so big and I couldn't get as much help as I needed."

But teachers at Delta typically have only 20 students each. And students can choose from a traditional 5 days a week in class, online schooling, or even a combination of the two.

But  Executive Director Kyle Konold said students here can also get a head start on college. "We have a partnership we started this year with CSN where juniors and seniors can take courses at CSN for free in any programs."

As for Sam, he's at CSN now hoping to become an agricultural engineer. Konold said the school may not be for everyone.

"Any student who hasn't found success with a traditional model. If you love it, stay at your school. But if you don't love it for whatever reason, there is an option."

Delta is not full, so if your student needs to make a change, there are still spots available 6-12th grade.
