Woman receives kidney from ex-fiancé

After being diagnosed with full renal failure, California woman Sabrina Timms, 35, will live after finding her perfect match following a search lasting a year and a half. However, the donor is no stranger. Daniel Burdick, Timms' ex-fiancé, turned out to be her perfect kidney match.

"Timms' father and uncle were both tested, but neither was a match," reports KTVU. "According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 120,000 people are on waiting lists for organ donations. Eighteen people a day die waiting for them."

"I go to dialysis with people who have been waiting eight to 15 years," Timms shares with KTVU. "It's very rare to find a perfect match."

Timms and Burdick broke off their engagement eight years ago, but continue to co-parent their daughter together.

Timms receives her new kidney on June 3 at noon at the University of California, San Francisco.
