Newlywed sentenced to 30 years for pushing husband off cliff

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Mar 28, 2014

A Montana woman who pushed her husband off a steep cliff just eight days after their wedding was sentenced on Thursday to more than 30 years in prison. The groom’s family had been hoping for a longer sentence: 50 years to life.

Jordan Linn Graham, 22, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in December, admitting to luring her new husband, Cody Johnson, to Glacier National Park and pushing him off a cliff, CNN reports. It happened after they argued over her regrets about the marriage.

On Wednesday, she attempted to change her guilty plea, but a judge denied that motion and sentenced her to 365 months in prison.

"After providing several false statements to law enforcement officers and impeding the investigation by providing false information, Graham ultimately admitted pushing Cody from behind with both hands," prosecutors said in a statement Thursday.

"It was a reckless act," Graham had told the judge in December. "I just pushed."
