A man dressed as Santa Claus was shot by a pellet gun on Christmas.

50-year-old Xavier Hawkins was walking along Stevens Road in southeast Washington, D.C., spreading a little holiday cheer.

All the sudden, he felt a sharp pain in his upper back and yelled in surprise.

The wound was minor. Hawkins was treated and released from a local hospital.

The shooting was captured by a cameraman for WJLA Channel 7. Hawkins was being interviewed at the time of the shooting.

Witnesses say they heard two shots and police think the shots came from a nearby building.

According to Channel 7, Hawkins remained cheerful during the incident and wanted to stay and give out gifts. However, he was overruled by the medics who arrived to treat him.
