Gwyneth Paltrow comments on her split from husband

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Mar 28, 2014

Just as Gwyneth Paltrow chose to break news of her split from husband Chris Martin via her blog, Goop, earlier this week, on Friday she used the same site to make her first public comments since the split was announced.

In the new post, titled "One Bird, Three Meals," Paltrow, 41, added the brief postscript, "CM and I in deep gratitude for the support of so many.” She signed it with a heart icon.

Martin, 37, is the frontman for British rock band Coldplay. He and Paltrow had been married for 10 years. They have two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.

In an interview with Extra on Thursday, Paltrow’s close friend and fellow actress Cameron Diaz said she was “proud” of the former couple.

"I think it's actually a very elevated and conscious [decision] and realized statement -- when people like Chris and Gwyneth who really worked hard to be friends and keep the things that are good and work in their relationship, which is being friends and being parents," Diaz said. "People go separate ways in other aspects of their life and I think it's really brave of them to phrase it that way. Leaving as a couple and deciding to stay together as parents and as friends -- I think it's beautiful."

She added, "I'm so proud of them."

Paltrow announced the split on Tuesday in a post oddly titled “Conscious Uncoupling.”

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," she wrote. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate," she continued. "We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been.”

As ABC News reports, “In September, Paltrow, told ‘Good Morning America’ that hers was not always an easy marriage and to combat their ‘big ups and downs,’ she and Martin ‘laugh it out.’”
