Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A new executive director will soon take over the troubled Nevada Health Link.
The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange board selected Bruce Gilbert of Addison, Tex., for the job during its meeting on Thursday.
Gilbert was one of two finalists for the position. The other finalist, David Haws, withdrew his name before the final round of interviews on Thursday.
According to his public resume, Gilbert currently runs HIX Partners LCC, a health care services company in Texas. He told board members he wants the Nevada job because it would allow him to impact a lot of lives. Gilbert said he could not guarantee success but would show up every day and work hard.
The health link has been plagued with glitches and problems for months. Many customers became frustrated with a series of roadblocks as they tried to purchase insurance. Previous executive director Jon Hager stepped down in March as the issues came to a head.
The state will switch to a system supported by the federal government's infrastructure during the upcoming open enrollment.
The executive director's position pays an annual salary of $117,030, according to the job posting.
Board chair Barbara Smith Campbell said she would like Gilbert to begin his position by the end of July.
