Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - No matter what neighborhood you live in, abandoned properties are popping up all over our city. Frustrated viewers are reaching out to Action News to find out who is responsible for the mess left behind by negligent homeowners. This eyesore next door is near Hacienda and Rainbow where neighbors says everyone is well aware the home is vacant.
"People don't want this kind of thing in their neighborhoods," said Veronica Walton who lives nearby.
But Veronica doesn't have a choice. For more than six months she says every time she turns onto her street, she sees a home with boarded up windows, tagging and a front door that's wide open.
"It's kinda scary just to think that this kind of thing is going on it's a nice house but nobody is taking care of it," said Veronica.
The gate to the backyard is gone and the sliding glass door to the kitchen is shattered. Veronica says people are capitalizing on being able to walk right in.
She says the only appliance left in the kitchen is the dishwasher. Veronica says one of her neighbors has actually gone as far to park their car in the driveway to make it look as if someone lives there. But even that didn't do any good.
"You don't know if it's somebody around here just doing or maybe somebody is coming here maybe a transient and living here," said Veronica.
Action News did some digging and learned the home is in the beginning stages of the foreclosure process. But according to the assessor's web site it's still in Susan Collingbourne's name, the homeowner since 2004. We tried calling Collingbourne, but the number didn't work.
We went to another address listed for her, but no one answered the door. We did get ahold of Clark County code enforcement, and they're familiar with this house. They secured it back in December and put a lien on the property to cover the cost to do so.
Now because of our call they say they're opening a new case on the home and that's welcome news to Veronica.
"It's a good neighborhood, except for this house," said Veronica.
We'll keep an eye on that property and let you know when it gets secured, for a second time. The mess inside may not change until someone takes over the property though.
