Kusina Ni Lorraine tops list with 33 demerits

By Darcy Spears. CREATED Nov 6, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- This might be hard to swallow, but we've got eight restaurants to tell you about in this week's Dirty Dining.

Sit down and hang on for Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears.

It's time for some Filipino fast food as Kusina Ni Lorraine tops the demerit list with 33 and a "C."

When we paid a visit to the restaurant on West Ann in North Las Vegas, one patron was happy to see us.

"I'm glad that you guys are doing this kind of work.  It will help, you know," said Bing Dominguez.

When we pointed out their "C" grade, Bing exclaimed, "Oh, that's bad!  I didn't even see it.  I should have seen it before I sit down right here.  Now I'm not enjoying the food."

The rest of his lunch ended up in the trash.

We were able to talk to Bing because employees kept putting us off.

We stood waiting to talk to whoever was in charge for a good 10-15 minutes while they completely ignored us.

There were a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but nobody knew what to do about us.

Health inspectors found food stored in grocery bags, raw beef left unattended on a dirty sink, and food being prepared on trash cans.

Ellen Skreba finally decided to talk to us.

Darcy: Is that something you would expect to see in a restaurant kitchen--food being prepared on top of a trash can?
Ellen: Maybe accidentally they just put it there, you know? But we're not usually to do that.

Chicken, mussels, beef, empanadas, noodles, and pork all had to be trashed because they were at unsafe temperatures.

Darcy: They also found an employee scooping drink ice with bare hands, out of the ice machine, into the customer's drink cup, not good.
Ellen: Well actually, I can't answer that one because I didn't see that one.

She said the "C" grade was due to only one or two employees, but ultimately, is makes them all look bad.

On now to the seven, yes seven, restaurants shut down due to imminent health hazards.

Most for having no hot water or no water at all.

Those include:

- Gilley's portable bar and Senor Frogs upstairs long bar: Both at Treasure Island

- Thai noodles cafe on West Cheyenne

- Super Mart snack bar on Smoke Ranch

- Roberto's Taco Shop on East Russell

- Subway at 6500 Boulder Highway.

The seventh, Fofana imports on West Charleston, was shut down due to a cockroach infestation. The inspector stopped counting after 22 roaches.

Kusina Ni Lorraine was reinspected Tuesday and got their "A" back.

Most of the others have re-opened with "A" grades as well.

The only one still pending is the Super Mart Snack Bar.
