Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- We make choices based on convenience all the time. But a Henderson woman recently learned the hard way, a quick decision can cost you. That's when she reached out to our Call for Action volunteers for help.
"We had seven dress shirts, pair of slacks, and a couple other things," said Mayra Craig.
She needed to find a dry cleaner, shortly after moving into the valley last December, "Naturally, we picked one that was closest to our home."
But a couple days after leaving her husband's clothes there, the business had some bad news.
"They had lost six of my husband's dress shirts. We're talking Banana Republic. We're talking Ralph Lauren. They're pretty nice shirts," said Mayra.
She said the dry cleaner asked for a couple more days, in order to check another store location. But a few days later, still no sign of the shirts.
"So at this point now, it's like okay, this is getting a little ridiculous. My husband is starting a brand new job. Six days worth of shirts is quite a bit," said Mayra.
She said the owner asked for even more time, promising to reimburse her, if nothing was found. But after more than a month, the shirts were still no where to be found. And then the business stopped taking Mayra's calls.
"They kept putting us off basically, and she never returned our calls, which is what was getting very annoying and aggravating," said Mayra.
So she decided to call someone who would listen, Contact 13's Call for Action. Our volunteers made call after call to the business, until Mayra finally saw results, "After 60 days of dealing with this problem, I got a check for $450."
She said she couldn't be happier, "I know for a fact that you guys don't give up, which I highly appreciate."
Here's the Contact 13 bottom line: Do a little research before doing business with anyone. Getting a friend's recommendation, or checking online reviews can save you a lot of heartache.
