Action News helps woman having engine trouble

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Drivers put their cars through a lot of wear and tear. To keep your car running smoothly, means an occasional visit to the mechanic.

But one Valley woman said her car trouble actually started after getting some work done. When she couldn't get the help she needed, she turned to Contact 13's Call for Action.

"I felt like I was in an old western, having a showdown with them," said Shirley Nave.
 
Car repairs are never fun, and Shirley said a recent experience at a Valley car dealership was a real battle.
 
It all started back in August, after getting some work done on her 2003 Mazda MPV, "They did the transmission, and an oil leak."
 
But there was a problem.
   
"Three days later, it's making horrible noise. Like popping and cracking and clicking," said Shirley.
 
She said she had her car towed back to the dealer right away. Even though they were closed for the weekend, she left her car in their drop-off area. Once they opened, Shirley tried getting some help. 
 
"I'm calling four or five times, calling leaving messages there," said Shirley.
 
But she said it took four days before they finally called her about fixing her car, and the mechanic had some bad news.
   
"He said it's not under warranty anymore," said Shirley.
 
It turns out her warranty plan had expired just one day ago. Shirley argued her Mazda had been there for days and the car trouble only started after her recent transmission work, but the dealership wasn't willing to listen.
 
"I need that van, desperately. And that's when I called Contact 13," said Shirley.
 
Our Call for Action volunteers got on the phone, and that very same day, Shirley said the dealer called her back, "He says, you're going to get your van back in tip top shape, and he apologized."
 
She said her car is running perfectly now, and she's received a new one year warranty for her engine and transmission.
 
"Do you know what, Contact 13 volunteers are doing, you're bringing out the good in people and you're making them do the right thing. That's what Contact 13 is all about," said Shirley.
 
Here's the contact 13 bottom line: Be sure to keep a close eye on important dates for something like a warranty on car parts. We're so glad we could help Shirley, but it's only because of the unusual circumstances. Typically, once a warranty expires, there are no exceptions.
