Legal fight against new meat label rule
The meat and livestock industry is taking legal action against a new rule.
The industry is trying to stop a new labeling rule finalized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture earlier this year.
Meat labels say where meat comes from. But under the new rule, they must now say where the meat was born, raised and slaughtered.
The American Meat Institute says the rule is unconstitutional and has filed suit in federal court. The suit charges that the rule results in costly changes with little to no benefit.
