Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - It's always nice to earn some extra money. But maybe you've never had the extra time. It turns out, it may be easier than you think to earn some cash. Contact 13's Tricia Kean has a look at some money-making apps for your smartphone.
It's as simple as pushing a button. The power rests right in the palm of your hand... your smartphone.
Miwa Hayakawa uses "Gigwalk." Using the app in her spare time, she estimates she earned about $300 last year.
"There are tons of gigs right now in Vegas," says Miwa.
You just pick a job anywhere in the city. Each location requires you to snap some pictures in and outside the business. And using a special app you can download for free, you also have to take a panoramic picture.
"Then I send it to Gigwalk, and then that's it," says Miwa.
She says after a few days, if the pictures are approved, you're paid right away using a paypal account. Most of the jobs pay about $5 each.
"Quite good money," says Miwa.
Then there's "EasyShift." You pick a job at spots like the grocery store or gas station. Then you answer a few questions, for example, did you find a certain product in the store? Then you take some pictures.
Just like Gigwalk, EasyShift pays you through PayPal. But money isn't the only thing you can earn. For example, Darrell Johnson uses an app called "ShopKick." It's like a rewards program, except you get points for just showing up.
"If you go to like a Target, Walmart, you get points for walking in the door," says Darrell.
Just make sure the app is on, and the GPS checks you into that location. Then you get points for walking in the door, no purchase necessary. You also have a chance to earn extra points by using your phone to scan certain items sold in the store.
"They'll have like Nabisco Wheat Thins or something like that. You scan that and that's like 10, 25 points," says Darrell.
The points can be cashed in for gift certificates to some of your favorite stores. Keep in mind, it takes thousands of points to earn something as small as just a $10 gift card. But Darrell says, he approaches it like a game.
"It's fun, it's like a scavenger hunt. Go around like, oh, I've got a reason to go window shopping," says Darrell.
Right now Darrell says he's got about 6,000 points, and is saving up for one of ShopKick's bigger prizes. But if you're more interested in a job that doesn't require leaving the house, then "Mobile Rewards" may be more your speed. This app offers jobs like watching a YouTube video, or answering a survey. Each job pays you in credits, that can be redeemed for cash.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up your phone and start earning some extra money today.
Remember, some of these apps are only available on the iPhone.
