Man runs 26 miles in 26 days to raise awareness about hunger in Vegas

CREATED Dec. 19, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas man is running 26 miles again and again and again. Jayson Black is running the 26 miles for 26 consecutive days to raise food and awareness for Three Square Food Bank.

Employees at the Cannery send Jayson off for his morning jog -- a short 26 miles. He's doing this for 26 days to raise awareness about the hunger need in our city. "We picked Three Square because they do so much for so many people in our community."

Three Square can turn $1 in to 3 meals but to do that, they rely on cash and food donations. Which means they rely on people like Jayson to keep the need in the news.

Matt Muldoon is the Chief Development Officer for Three Square. He says what Jayson is doing, "Is crazy in one sense, but it is courageous in another. Keeping awareness high that hunger doesn't take a day off. "

The Cannery is supporting Jayson and has been a longtime supporter of Three Square. The hotel and casino relies on our local community to thrive.

Cannery GM Patrick Hughes says, "Three Square does great job. Their overhead is just 7% of what they raise. But more importantly, every dollar donated, they generate 3 meals. It's an amazing feat. They are the real heroes today."

Jayson wraps up his running on Monday. That's the 26th day of 26 miles. He jokes that this is Vegas so he might just do something bigger and better next year as long as Three Square stays in the spotlight.
