Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A big milestone for Goodie Two Shoes -- more than 40,000 children have brand new shoes thanks to them.
The most recent giveaway took place at Kit Carson Elementary School. Student Miguel says, "I think it's good for me so I can run around and move around much better."
The event at Carson was especially significant because it marked the occasion of Goodie Two Shoes giving away the 40,000th pair of shoes to a child.
Founder Nikki Berti says, "I look at that number and it is a really big number and I just never really envisioned that. I don't know where we will stop will it be a hundred thousand kids. Or a million kids? I don't know!"
Every child is matched with a volunteer who helps them pick out the perfect pair. Juliet knows just what she wants. "Tennis Shoes. Because I can run in them and play and do all sorts of things."
Before the shoes make it to the kids, they are sorted at Goodie Two Shoes' warehouse. This look inside shows how massive the operation is. Through the years, founders Tony and Niki Berti have perfected it. "In the first 9 years we outfitted 20 thousand children. But in the last two years, we outfitted 20,000."
It costs $10,000 dollars to put on one of these events. Special thanks to National Security Technologies -- they shelled out all of that money and provided volunteers to make it possible. Most schools are on a 6-18 month waiting list, fundraising to get Goodie Two Shoes to come. If a corporate sponsor steps up to help with some or all of the cost, Goodie Two Shoes can serve even more schools more quickly.
