Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- When you think of sororities, you probably think of party girls and good times. You may not think of women giving back.
But that's exactly what the Las Vegas Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated is doing.
Juana Leia Jordan heads the sorority's Political Awareness & Involvement, "Every penny that goes into this meter. Every penny goes to the homeless. Nobody gets a kick back, because we don't want anyone to be without food."
Action News caught up with the ladies in red at their downtown parking meter at Fremont and Las Vegas Boulevard. But helping the homeless is just one of the many ways these ladies are serving our community.
Chapter President Tya Mathis explains, "We give out more than $15,000 in scholarships every year. We want these kids to go to college and hopefully come back and give back to our community one day."
Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated's alumni chapter is very involved politically. You'll often see these ladies in red attending city council meetings or school board meetings.
This sorority was founded exactly 100 years ago on the campus of Howard University, so they are celebrating their centennial year across the country.
