Cutting-edge surgery done at Sunrise Hospital helps paralyzed mom

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas mother is walking again after a tumor paralyzed her leg and she has a family of doctors to thank for her recovery -- the Khavkins.

Tiffany Cannon is the mother of a busy three year old so when a tumor grew, pressing against her spinal cord, she was literally paralyzed from caring for him.  "It's hard because he's active. He has a lot of energy.  He didn't know what was wrong and I couldn't do things for him."
Tiffany has a quite common condition that causes tumors to grow all over her body.  What's not common is the size of the tumor that grew inside.
Dr. Gene Khavkin, along with a team of specialists that included his wife and brother, performed the cutting-edge surgery -- carefully removing Tiffany's tumor without causing damage and then rebuilding her spine.  "The most exciting, humbling part of this experience is the fact that Tiffany did as well as she did. She was not able to walk a few months prior to that."
Tiffany still has some back pain but she's able to keep up with Michael again and has Dr. Khavkin to thank for that.  "If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here right now. i wouldn't be walking and talking to you right now."
Dr. Khavkin says this procedure can only be done by a few physicians in the country.  And it was done right here at Sunrise Hospital.
