Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Some local kids are heading in to their senior year of high school more ready than ever to tackle the dreaded SATs and it is all because they spent their summer at CrossFit 702.
Owner Jared Glover said, "That's how we tricked them into coming in. You get a fun portion of physical fitness and then class afterwards."
The opportunity to work out their bodies is impressive enough but once they're done working their bodies, they get to work on their brains. After a hard workout, the kids hit the books for 45 minutes of SAT prep. The tutors are gym members like Michelle, who are also Clark County school teachers.
Student athlete Chris said, "I needed the SAT practice to get my score up and get to college. I love CrossFit already so when she offered me the program, I was on board."
Most of the kids in this summer's class came for free on scholarship from gym owner Jared Glover
, "I'm born and raised here. So I love our community and want to give back and help the community."
Jared said the research shows students can focus better after a hard workout and all of the students have seen their scores improve on their practice SATs.
Student athlete Jessica said, "Now that I'm starting to realize what's going to be on the SAT and when we practice more and more it seems to get easier."
Exercising the body and the brain. It's a great summer combination for Clark County students.
Jared said the program was such a success they are hoping to expand and offer it year round.
